    Hi,
Yesterday 13th December Father Christmas came to town!! I got a recall letter from VW UK offering FREE inspection and FREE replacement of the sodding 2.0 TDi Piezo Injectors.

To cut a long story short - as I have just replied to the 'possible recall' thread - I had 1 fail August 2010, another October 2010 and paid for both as poxy VW didn't want to know and only offered part payment - still way more expensive than using VW specialist I got to do them.
Then I had the 'ticking time bomb' of do I get the other 2 done or get shot of the car??
Not a lot about I wanted, and I love the car, so had other 2 done as well. Total incl vat £2361.40!! 4x injectors, injector loom/rail, bolts and stretch bolts for 3 times mechanic had to go in there.

I rang VW and roasted into them - as long as you have receipts, part numbers used (your mechanic should be ale to give you these - mine did including invoices from VW for parts including dates of purchase) and your V5 to prove car is yours - they want copies of all this - they will offer reimbursement, full I hope!! (and expect to be fair)

Just ring them, explain you had them done at you own cost, they will give you a reference number to quote, send them your receipts etc and hopefully there will be a happy end to this shameful saga.

Nice Christmas present then ? I wish vw would have done this a few years back and not fobbing off customers . Vw brand in my opinion suffered badly over this , every man and his dog knows my car will explode any day now .

My car broke down the other day and I rang a few Indys and they all said " oh a vw tdi , that would be the injectors then " luckily it was just the fuel pump but it goes to show what reputation this cars are starting to have .

I wonder if I will get a recal letter

Got my letter today booked in next week 22/12/11. One question i will ask if they say all is ok what about tomorrow and the next day etc. To give me piece of mind they should change them all. This is the recall wording :
On vehicles with 2.0 TDI engine of a limited production period small electrically conducting carbon deposits can settle on the Piezo pump injector elements after being carried in the engine oil. This can lead to running problems and in some cases to a short circuit of the Piezo pump injector element, which can cause engine running problems and in certain circumstances the engin to stop running.
So is it only a limited production period (i dont think so) or is it the oils fault (i dont think so). Why dont they just fit a problem free injector.

Look like this letter is going all over. Got mine yesterday. Only thing is I got them done bout 2 months ago ( f o c of course) Good work VW for updating your records. Bless em !! Im going into VW and being honest with them, no need to have them checked when they have been done. But it's nice to see that a recall is ongoing now to correct this. Good un!!

I think it's down to poor manufacturing of the Siemens injectors. Also think they replace them with bosch injectors. Mine had done over 120k on a 07 platewhen they got changed so my thinking is that if this car goes another 120k plus on these new uns they got it right.

new injectors are a redesign apparently the new ones have an S at then end of the part number which means superceded part.

Mine were done at my cost but VW reimbursed in ful and one was done by an independent. I wait to see if I get a letter.

Does this affect all 2.0TDI engines, as not had a letter yet if it does? I have a 2007(57) Passat Sport Estate with a 2.0TDI engine.

It is not a recall, it is a "Campaign", the word "Recall" is a sensitive one which they like to avoid.
