I have exactly the same problem with exactly the same car. A4 Avant 2.0 FSI with the AWA engine. So far 8 new spark plugs, 4 new coil packs, complete engine flush through, new filters, new fuel pump (tank), new fuel pressure sensors, new engine speed sensor.

Ridiculously expensive so far, and exactly the same problem exists, and so far I haven't found a garage that says 'we didnt need to fit those parts so we wont charge you for them!' Although I have to admit that Carringtons nr Oxford have been brilliant so far, and are trying their hardest to fix it.

Any ideas?? I think that given the number of threads with this problem that AUDI themselves should get involved. I have owned numerous Audis from new and this is seriously making me think twice about buying another one

Someone must remind me where garages apply to the Charities Commission for membership...failing that where we can all acquire the skills of divine knowledge!

thanks for your reply, just to shed further light on the situation. the car had a major breakdown shortly after i bought it due to the plastic flaps on the inlet manifold breaking apart. a pice of flap must have entered the engine at some point which caused the rocker assembly to lift out. one cylinder was showing no compression at the time this happened due to the plastic getting stuck behind a valve. this was removed and i have since had the whole inlet manifold replace (the new metal conversion one) new fuel hoses, and injectors cleaned. air leaks were also tested for and timing also checked. i have since had new maf sensor, all coil packs (genuine vag) knoks sensor and throttle body cleaned. and i pressume the audi specialists that did this compression tested the cylinders after the work but can't be certain. none of the above work has cured the problem. as i have mentioned before the car runs like a dream most of the time but the rough idle problem never goes away and the car ocasionally hunts (always at about 2000 revs) but not all the time. i have also tried fuel cleaner and running the car purley on premium unleaded petrol as someone suggested. none of this has worked either. the car still had the idle problem prior to the major breakdown. i am starting to wonder with my limited mechanical knowledge if there is still a bit of plastic floating around in the engine and occasionally getting trapped behind a valve or making one stick. this is the only thing that has not been done yet eg... taking the head off. this will obviously be expensive and no guarantee of sucess. your thoughts would be appreciated. the only other thing i thought of doing myself was an engine flush, would this help or cause further problems!

You need to ascertain that the compressions are correct.

hi what year is your bag of s**t audi, mine is 2002. i myself have had loads of audis but diesel's and all have been brilliant but i think the petrol version is rubbish. let me know if you get anywhere with yours. i am now down to 2 last options as virtually every component that could be at fault has been replaced, but worse still it keeps on blowing coil packs. i have been told that there is a common problem with the ECU causing problems but my local audi specialist has said that would have shown on the vag computer. the only other option is to remove the head and check for cylinder damage which will cost a fortune and not guarantee any sucess either. i would rather sell mine as i cant afford to spend any more money on it, but how do you sell a car that runs like a bag of sh 1 t half the time. just to let you know mine has been to 3 audi specialists so far and i have spent 2k on garage bills and no garage has yet been able to fix the problem. they all say they can when go to them, then after replacing various parts and charging 3-400£ a time they say sorry it has not fixed the problem and we have run out of ideas. very annoying, very expensive but i guess the garages are looking for a needle in a haystack and dont have a crystal ball. Audi should be responsible but they dont want to know, especially on a car a few years on in age.

    Hi everyone,

Did you managed to resolve your idle problem on your 2.0 FSI ? I have the exact same issue, and it's been a while that i am searching for someone who has the same problem...

Thank you and I hope that you got it fixed...
