    Hi All,
My a3 1.6 sport alarm keeps going off for no reason at all. Sometimes it will sound shortly after I've locked it, sometimes an hour or so later. This does not happen everytime I lock the car but as and when the car feels like it, it's doing my head in!! The weather doesent appear to be a factor in this nor where I park it, it's just a very odd thing that I want to get sorted out, will a scan with a VAG-COM show any codes or am I going about this the wrong way?
    Any help would be great!

yes a scan will show what is setting the alarm off.
check your drivers door lock, the nicroswitches are known to fail.
Leave you lights on take the key out and open the door, does a buzzer sound ?

It may be the battery in the alarm horn is dead, I had this in mine a year or two ago. It's a sealed unit so you need to replace the whole thing. Before this happened I would hear it beep a few times when first turning the ignition. I think the unit is about £80, and quite straight forward to fit.
As Kite says, a fault code scan will tell you more.

    Hi Kite,
In answer to your question, yes, a buzzer does sound, is that to remind me that I've left my lights on or is it something more sinister? I will try a Vag scan tomorrow, is there a specific area of the programe that I need to use or just a standard autoscan?
    Thanks in advance mate

    Hi Stuie-t,
Thanks for the advice but I dont hear a beep when I turn the ignition, the only sound relating to the alarm that I hear is when I lock the car and I think it's either the horn or alarm, just a short beep, not even that loud. The red alarm light will stay constant on the door and after about 30secs or so it begins to flash, normal I think? I'll try a scan very soon, maybe tomorrow and try to trace the fault, thanks again.

Nothing sinister, just checking you microswitch in the door lock works, these are known to fail.
    Autoscan should show the faults..
