I may be being thick here...

One pull on the headlight switch turns on the front fogs (and the little green fog light symbol next to the switch).

A further pull turns on the rear fogs (and the rear fog light symbol in the main display).

Is it possible to only have the rear ones on? If not, is there a good reason for this?

I think because one would assume if it was foggy enough to have the rears on, you'd have the front ones on anyway...

Now don't get me started on the mis-use of rear fog lights either - that really p*sses me off!!

However, to directly answer your question, I'm not sure you can, maybe those with VCDS could assist. I had this same feature on my Focus a few years back, which has the same type of headlight switch. I didn't have the option to turn on rear fogs without fronts first..

Conversely, it's hard to think of a situation where you'd want fronts but not rears... which is why, I've always presumed, rear ones are compulsory, but front are not.

Yes the red lights (compulsory) penetrate fog easier (and tend to dazzle more), whereas the front fog lights are sort of useless as proper fog lights - any bright beam into fog just doesn't work - full beam just highlights the fog more!

Front fog lights are more for style and looks imho

Isn't the idea with front ones that, because they are lower and point down more, they light up the road, rather than the fog? I do always find them to offer marginal improvement over normal lights, at best, though.

    They do look cool, mind.

At least with a VW when you turn the lights off the fogs go off so when you turn them on you are not a numpty. My wife gets sooooooo fed up with me shouting at other drives sayiing " its not FOGGY"

Front fogs are designed to light up the curb and centre line of the road if conditions are bad!!
