My 2006 passat has done 87000 miles and just wondering about how strong the clutches are bite point seems a little high but there is no discernable slip. Are there any sensor in the clucth palte/mechanism that can be read by the code readers.

My motoring is mainly slow commute for a few miles flowed by motorway crusiing. Leisure town driving, holiday runs are long runs to france. Car not over loaded with weight only wife and I no kids. No Towing.

What are other experiences on clutch replacments

Car is a 2l TDI 140 BHP and has had all the injectors replaced thanks you VW

    Thanks in advance.

No sensors or anything to check with a clutch. You have to wait until you notice it rattle or slip. How long it lasts depends on your driving style. A reasonable estimate is 100,000 miles for clutch and flywheel. Some people can kill a clutch in far less time.

As a guide my old passat 1.9 tdi never had a clutch in 178000 miles. Think it mostly depends if your kind to your car.

I'm up to 78k on a 2.0 petrol and the clutch seems fine, I've never had a clutch replaced, however I've also never notched up over 100k on a car either.

I am slightly confused as to the difference between a flywheel and a dual mass flywheel, or are they the same? I've only heard of DMF in relation to diesel engines, also is this component something that wears along with the clutch, or separately to it?

    Thanks!

My last Passat estate started to slip at about 190K before I popped in a new one (on the drive) and sold it on. This B6 2.0tdi is up to 128k and still seems fine, good bite and pulls very well with no slip. I do sense a slight rocking occasionally at idle though which has me thinking "oh no , the DMF", but I suppose it is only a matter of time anyway so why worry??

Are clutches from the likes of Mr Clutch suitable or should this be a dealer only repair?
