Note: I just found this B7 fitting guide by Ben which pretty much wholly applies to the B6 too..

    Hi,

Having been warned that the OEM mud-flaps would not fit the S-Line body kit.. I umm'd and err'd for ages about getting them.

As a dog owner, the car is forever getting mud splashed up the arches and doors when driving onto playing fields and it's getting worse as winter draws in.

So, I thought sod-it; ordered them and got them fitted this weekend:

£27.50 + VAT (front mudflaps pair)
£21.67 + VAT (rear avant mudflaps pair)

They fitted my S-Line body kit with no problems at all and I even managed to fit the rear flaps without taking the wheels off (as suggested in the instructions). The trick is to use some pump pliers to force the spring clips into place instead of using a hammer (which you can only really use if you remove the wheels). The idea is to get the clips in place and wedge the pump pliers between the tyre and the clip and open the jaws of the pump pliers - the back of the pliers will push into the tyre & clip, forcing the clip to slide into place.

I think they compliment the custom rear exhausts really well, making it look a bit like an allroad! What do you think of them?

Looks aside, they prooved their worth this afternoon. I'd just been to "The best hand-job in the north" car wash (on Manchester's Princess Parkway), so the car was squeaky clean. The mudflaps stopped all the usual splatters of mud as I drove onto the park, result.

They are a 100% perfect fit, a lot of thought has gone into their design and they fix in place very securely. Despite the cost, I'd go for these any day over some generic aftermarket offering; you'll probably only save 30% on the cost of the OEM flaps.

    Toff.

    Hi,

They took about 10 minutes per front flap (you need to turn the wheels for each flap to make life easier) and about 10-15 minutes each for the back flaps (more fiddly if you don't take the back wheels off... but still quicker than taking the weels off in my opinion!) Like anything, if I was doing them again without the learning curve.. I could do the lot in 15 minutes. The fit & finish is excellent, highly reccomended.

Re the tail pipes.. I guess I was trying to emulate the tips on my beloved 3.0 TDI which I sadly had to sell.

The tips on my 1.9 Quattro are genuine.. from a B7 2.0 TDI I think. I paid £0.99 for one of them on eBay and over £50 for the other at the dealer!

She's smokey enough as it is with down-turned pipes (when I put my foot down), so the thought of a straight-through was not an option! Unfortunately I couldn't get them mounted exactly as I wanted but I'm still pleased with them.

SWARCUP.. do you park your car near Beverley minster often? I'm sure I've seen a modified Audi around those parts a few times.

    Toff.

They look very nice. I like them

Just out of curiosity - could they be painted to match the car colour? Or would they be most likely to
just crack the paint and chip? I suppose with a decent primer and plenty of lacquer it could be done.

    Hi,

Thanks for your comments. It's a definite no.. you couldn't paint them because they are too flexible.. so you'd probably crack & split the paint when fitting them to the car (they require a fair push to get the into place and this alters the form as they slide over the arches etc).

Even if you did paint them whilst on the car, I think it's a totally unsuitable surface & material to adhere paint to. You can easily bend the flaps by hand and even when screwed & clipped to the car, they are still quite malleable.
