    Hi all,

Last week my missus became the owner of a 2002 (52) a4 avant FSI. I noticed the top of the breather pipe (the bit that connects to the Tee coming from the crank case towords the front of the motor) was split. When uncliping it at the bottom it perished in my hand and now need replacing. Can I just whack any 2" to 1" hose pipe on there? It looks about 2" to 1" but might be different. It is number 14 in the picture below. All help appreciated!

And Hi! from Liz and me, new to VAG motors so will be here from time to time im sure!

can't see any reason for not doing as you suggest,if you can get a proper bend in the hose, although i shouldn't imagine the part would cost a lot

It is a complete swine to do properly, the inlet manifold has to come off.

Any idea why there is such a big plenum-type bit on the bottom? Maybe to prevent back pressure pumping into the head?

It allows the oil to separate and liquid to drain back so reducing the amount of oil in the inlet tract.

Thanks gents. I guess I'll go oem unless it's unreasonably expensive or has horrendous lead time. Can it be squeezed under the manifold? That's how I got this one out but it did crack in the process. Should it be rigid plastic or is it supposed to be flexible? Thanks for all replies!

Hi. I've changed this pipe on my car about 2 weeks ago. Bottom part of it is hard plastic,
1" pipe is somewhat flexible. All I've had to remove to get this thing back where it belongs
was wire, that attaches to alternator. Hope this helps.
P.S. Pipe cost 45 euro from Audi dealer ( Ireland )

With all due respect, Crasher, all I did is got one hand under there after I squeezed the pipe in. Friend of mine managed to get his hand there as well, getting broken bits of pipe out, and he is quite a big fella, tall with big arms. Will post some pics tonight if I get a chance (working nightshift .. ) By the way, is it just me, or engine on photo looks like 2.0 20V (ALT), not FSI?? Or they are tweens?
P.S. Pardon my English, originally I'm Russian, therefore may I be forgiven for misspellings and other mistakes

Quick update: part number 06b103211e is now obsolete. It has been replaced by 06b103211h. £30.06+vat from vw dealer. I'll try to fit tonight. Hoping worst case I can drop the Altenator slightly to get better access if needed. Is the alternator on a threaded rod that can be wound up/down (at work so can't check)? Also, above statement ref SE/fsi engine concerns me! Have I bought something that is not what it is registered as?
