Thanks for this post : the double lefthander managed to make the switch in 2 minutes :-) 3 bolts, kickplate out, counterclockwise turn and remover old sensor, put in new sensor with clutch pedal depressed, rotate clockwise till click... finished :-) Excellent pdf-guide on top post. Cruise control alive again :-)

And : it appeared I hadn't turned it far enough the first time. Cc only worked if I slightly depressed the clutch pedal... Tried to correct it, damaged the switch. Ordered another one, installed it today, made sure the clutch pedal was lifted as far as possible. Seems to work now... Fingers crossed

Could very well be, my 2009 A5 had the sensor built in to the hydraulic pump... 500 euro's including labour iso 22 euro and DIY.

It's quite interesting to note how different the new improved clutch switch is, far more robust than the factory fitted version.

I'm not saying this is the same switch or process for all A4's, however this was the case for my 2007 2.0tdi 170 avant. It might help you along the way

I hope someone finds this useful.

I just wanted to say thanks for the pdfs, made it an absolute breeze and was much more confident taking the trim off.
I didnt touch the clutch pedal while installing and works perfectly. Seemed to set itself once rotated into position. Thanks so much.

Ressurecting this thread in the hope that someone can help me.
i have a 2007 A4 avant tfsi Quattro auto tiptronic.
i have a multifunction steering wheel and have added a cruise control stalk and a dis stalk.
i don't have VCDS but have taken the car to my local Indy Audi garage where they have tried and failed to code the car to accept the dis and cruise stalks.
id read that the clutch/brake switch can be faulty and cause the cruise control to not work.
do I have a clutch switch on my A4 with it being an auto?
id guess there's a brake pedal switch at least.
any help in diagnosing the problem would be great.
    tar.
