Hi guys can anyone help! My 2005 Audi A6 2.7TDI S-Line throws up a an ESP fault after driving for 10 minutes. Once the ignition is off it clears and returns again after 10 mins of driving. The fault reads "ESP Fault see owners manual" then disappears leaving the Traction control light on. The car drives perfectly with no juddering or loss of power throughout. My local garage could only supply me with a code.
The code is 18265 (Engine Load signal??)
Any help that could avoid a dealer visit would be fantastic.

18265/P1857/006231 - Load Signal: Error Message from ECU - See here for details

In which module/component did the code appear?

Is it an auto or a manual?

What do you mean by which component? The garage suggested it was an ABS fault code but I'm not sure

The fault code above usually appears within a specific module/component section in the diagnostic scan - it's not a part-specific code.

Do you have someone local who can scan the car using VCDS?

That's gone beyond my technical knowledge mate. I have been advised the code translates to P1857 if that helps. The fault occurs exactly 10 mins after starting, even if not moving! What is the car doing after 10 mins to cause it?? MAF has been mentioned a bit... I've just had a bulb replaced that required air box removal, could this be connected? Maybe a sensor disturbed?? I was told the filter was in a bad way too, again could this cause the problem? I'm clutching at straws!!

    Heh!

Ross-Tech's VCDS (formerly known as VAG-COM) is software which will scan your car for trouble codes and give you an easy to follow report.

In my post up there ^ I link to Ross-Tech's Wiki site for the codes.

I own VCDS as do a lot of other nerds on here so the chances of someone in Leeds having a copy are fairly high.

Have a search through this post for people in or around your area and then see if (a) they still have their copy, (b) they're still happy to scan and (c) if they can get a more comprehensive diagnosis/information.

The MAF could be a possibility, especially as someone's been ferreting around the area already.

I keep saying it, so my apologies for saying it again, but it all depends *where* this fault code is being stored. See the image on this page for a rough idea of how many different modules there are to scan.
