Touran: blower works, no air comes out the vents. Why?

I have a 54 reg Touran Sport 2.0TDI DSG 7seat and noticed that sometimes there is no air coming out of the vents even though the blower is fully (audibly) operational. The car has the 2 zone clima with the two rotary dials for each side temp.

What is really weird is that once the recirculation button is pressed the air starts coming out of the vents. De-select it (i.e. fresh air) and no flow. Air con on or off (i.e. econ selected or not) makes no difference.

When it does work, it works fine. What gives?

Does air come down to footwell vents? Winscreen vents? Could be motor jammed or split hose/hose off

No. No air is coming from any vent. The blower works strong but no air is coming out. It looks like a flap not opening, but then again some times it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Ok, having checked it in more than one ways, no errors come up at the VAG system. After 4 weeks of trying to figure this one out, the problem seems to have cured itself. It's gone. Everything works fine.

Most probably a vent was sticking every now and then, but having the whole system tested so vigorously, apparently cured it. So there.

Vents can stick, go through all the vents open close 1 by 1 with full power on and see if anything is blown out..
so do only all top, then only all middle, then only all foot well..

Ha, it's back!

Just when I thought it was over... Anyway. Did a lot more looking around and this is now WAAAYY too weird.

Listen to this: When I reverse (select R, step on throttle, reverse a few meters) air starts coming out of the vents. I can actually hear a flap engaging to allow the flow of air. As soon as I select Drive and move a few feet, it's gone. Same noise of the flap moving and air stops. The blower is always audible as before.

Why is there air in reverse but not in forward motion? What kind of sorcery is this lol?

My 04 touran is the same. Flow on recirculate but none in normal. Must be a sticky valve. It did it once last year but fixed itself very quickly. Must be fairly common. Someone on this forum must know the cure. Off to check the filter.

This morning I took the pollen filter out. Ran the aircon/ vent system for a minute. Put the filter back in and it all works as it should!

The filter is a bit black (18 months old), so I will change it later.

Maybe the system senses its blocked and will only work on recirc. Removing the filter may reset the logic. Who knows. It worked for me.

The filter is only a few pounds from the factors and easy to change(once you have done it once!).
