I would check the wiring or even if it is plugged in first. The 4F can suffer from water damage problems in the plenum chamber boxes.

Not sure sure if this is the solution, all dash gauges are ok other than fuel, I have tried removing the back seats a few times in the last year and the fuel gauge has worked after, a jolt over the back seat seems to have kicked it back into life after a "magic" tap, the vcds scan seems to suggest the low pressure fuel sensor needs replacing which is the part number I am requesting?

Under a cover on the cars left under the back seat. The testing producere is shown as

With fuel gauge sender 2 -G169- installed:
    Sender at lower stop: approx. 790 … 975 Ω.
    Sender at upper stop: approx. 50 … 86 Ω.

If the resistance is 0 Ω, there is a short circuit. If the resistance is ∞ Ω, there is an open circuit in the wiring.
In order to test the maximum and minimum values for “tank full” and “tank empty”, remove the fuel gauge sender 2 -G169-and move the float all the way to its top or bottom position.
The following values are obtained with the fuel gauge sender removed, due to the greater travel of the float arm:
With fuel gauge sender 2 -G169- removed:
Sender at lower stop: approx. 1004 Ω.
Sender at upper stop: approx. 50 Ω.

    The part number is 4F0 919 673 A at £60.96 + VAT plus you also need sealing ring 4F0 919 133 B at £27.52 + VAT and you MAY need ring 4F0 201 921 A at £21.07 + VAT.
