Hi all think i am going to buy my first VW or Audi

Don't all shout it me in all my years of driving (19 years) i have never owned and Audi or VW

First i quite liked the look of the passat estate 170 2.0 tdi then i started reading about the injector issues etc and this engine sounded more trouble than what its worth.

Then i thought about a touran because the extra seats tempted me

Now looking around i have spotted an 04 A4 Avant 95k 1.9 130 bhp which i really like the look of,i did a search on the forum and this engine seems to get a good reliablity write up.

Any input from you guys on any of the cars or engines i am thinking about would be much appreaciated.

No matter what you buy all carry risk of failure, VAG are the best way to give yourself the best chance of reliability. Best to look at what your needs are then decide. short poodle to shops? or long hauls every week.

I know buying a car today always carrys risks and some people would swear on different engines depending on there own experiences.
i had a 3.0 v6 signum diesel and had injector issues with that so i know what its like when things don't go the right way.

I take it the 1.9 tdi engine in the audi is the same as the VW??

I have seen a 2004 Audi A4 avant with 95k on clock full service which i like the look of,is there any difference to what to look out for on these compared to the passat with same engine or the touran??

The engines are the same used across them all. But there are a few variants of the 1.9 tdi AHU, ALH etc etc but they are good engines and the taxi drivers where i live drive octavias and regularly make 400k compared to the 220k of the french hdi's. Just watch out for clutch judder, if there is any.... AT ALL, dont bother unless its cheap enough that you could spend 6-700 on a new clutch and Dual Mass Flywheel.

cheers for the info lofty will remember the clutch judder,although even the vectras etc its the same issue with the dual mass flywheel and around the same money seems to be a thing you must deal with in modern diesel motors

i changed mine to a solid clutch, its less forgiving but never happen again
