    hi guys

A concern from a new owner of 2.0tdi on 07 plate a6 here. Just got the car a week or so ago and today i noticed that there is some lack of traction. It has been raining all day and the road surfaces were quite wet. Now this is the first time i have noticed such behaviour from this car. I had stopped at lights to turn right and it was an incline on the road i was heading onto from the junction.

When I set off in 1st gear i found the car to skid a bit and the ESP light flashing. The same happened in 2nd and 3rd gear. Now i wasnt really giving it the hammering, it was nice acceleration nothing out of the ordinary. Then further up I went to supermarket. As I went towards the car park the car skidded again and under steered like it was in snow. I was quite concerned as this was very very unusual. This is my fourth car and by far the most advanced(Out of Mazda6, Astra mk4 and Fiat Brava) and it was 15c outside with cloudy and a bit of rain. Did not expect such behaviour from this car. I have driven my cars in snow and not just the itty bitty snow we get here. I went to eastern europe for my Xmas last year and you get REAL SNOW there and that car didn't behave the way A6 did in a lil rain soked tarmac. I dont think it is normal or acceptable for a vehicle of this stature. The tyres are very good and got about 6mm trad on em and they are continentals so I could not understand this behaviour.

It ll make it really hard for me to drive it in snow if ths is how it goes.

    Any advice?

    Regards
    Raj

What tyres have you got on the front, brand and model? Oh and don't worry, I'm informed A6s are abysmal in the snow whatever, I intend to repeat my actions from last season and get winter tyres.

Have you had a dry spell recently before the heavy rain, because that coupled with the early autumn (leaves, etc on road) can make road surfaces very slippery.

Could it have been diesel on the road? A wet road with diesel on it is like ice!
