Drivers seat won't slide back & forward

Hi

Got an 02 Diesel passat. This morning, I got in and couldn't slide the drivers seat back & forward. It will still move up & down, but not adjust for leg length.

I had a look in the How to section and searched this forum, but didn't find anything related.

I appreciate it could be a number of problems, but is this likely to be a simple repair? I'm pretty good at following instructions, so quite happy to try a repair if it is likely to be relatively easy. I hate paying garages for repairs which are not specialist jobs, but can be done with a bit of research.

First of all, make sure nothing has fell down and jammed the runners, coins, pen or nut and bolt etc.

Then see if the handle is operating the lever that disengages the catch, unless its electric seats,
and thats a whole different ball-game???

I have manual seats, sorry, I should have mentioned that.

I did have a look, and I'm pretty sure that nothing has fallen down, but it's not the easiest place to see under, so can't be100% sure. As far as I can see, the lever is moving, but again the seat is jammed forward, and getting access is not the easiest, (and i'm not the smallest guy)
