Well I think the time has come to sell my beloved A6. Children, work and a whole host of other things mean I'm now looking for a double cab pick up truck and unfortunately there is no such thing in the VAG line-up.

So, where should I start with trying to sell my A6? Or does anyone know of anywhere in or near Glasgow who may trade?

Trade it in for a Nissan Navaro. Big and ugly but really rather good

You could always put it on www.pistonheads.co.uk It's free to advertise and lots of people visit the site.

Why don't you try selling it on here, and also www.autometrix.co.uk so you can get it in Audi Driver magazine?

I've always had a good response from Autotrader, but obviously that's going to cost you.

As a last resort there's always eBay, just make sure you put a realistic reserve on it.

Good luck with the sale anyway

Had my car up on any free forum i could find.. including piston heads and also up on the online trader for 2 weeks which cost circa £17.

Eventually after a week and a bit it was sold to chap who saw it on the piston heads website.

I had my audi TT advertised on Autotrader at £9995 for a month with no luck at all. Then I put it on ebay as a classified advert which I think lasted for about a month too with nothing but stupid questions and a couple of offers for 6500!!! - its on an (05) plate with 23k miles!!!!

Someone suggested ebay auction so we did that and put a reserve of £9250 and it made £8300!!! - finally someone at work had sold their RS6 through a site called http://www.dealerbid.co.uk so I went on there and sold it for £9300 to a dealer who collected it within a couple of days! - My point is that at £9995 it was a cheap car in comparison to dealer prices so why on earth couldnt I sell the car to the public for £9300 if a dealer is happy to pay that ? - He said they would put it up for £10995! - Think I must be missing something or people just prefer to buy from dealers. If id know before about that site id have gone that route because didnt cost me anything and no silly questions or messing around either.

People are very wary about spending big money on a private sale. They like the reassurances of a dealership/garage to go back to if they have any problems.

I part ex-ed a Golf for £12k recently, and it's up on the forecourt for £15k, but no one would touch it privately for £13k, even though it still had a year's warranty left on it.

A lot of people go to the dealers not only for the car, but for the finance too. Someone with ok but not the best credit history will probably get a better finance deal from the dealer than through a private bank loan.

I think someone here has already mentioned piston heads, you can also try specialist audi buyers like http://www.autovip.co.uk or even dealer bid.
