Hi all, follow up to my earlier posts re; my intermittent electrical prob, loss of throttle and going into limp mode.

Local auto elec tested it and said it needed a new throttle pedal assembly. They fitted one but 3 months later same prob again. Went to main dealer this time, same fault code came up but they said it checked out fine, must be a wiring prob, needs to come back so we can strip things out and check the connections etc.
Spent a full day there and the car was only worked on for just over an hour. The new diagnosis was it "probably"!!? has had moisture in the ECU cover and got some corrosion in connectors. It needs to come back in so we can have another go at it. They also said they need to order some parts, connector blocks etc. Made another date to bring car back in.

I was getting a bit p****d off with them so decided not to let them do any further "guesswork" at my expense so paid them for the time they'ed spent messing around (£200) and bought the parts they'd ordered, which was a new ECU plastic housing cover (no new connectors?) I finally found time this week to replace the housing my self. Checked all the wiring connectors and no sign of corrosion anywhere and from what I could make out, the only reason they were fitting a new ECU housing was that sometime in the past, someone had tried to remove the lid without taking the rear screw out and had broken the bit of lid. They obviously had not removed the the wiper arm cover.
So, everything is working fine now, only time will tell if I've cured the prob.

Corrosion on the contacts under the box is common on this platform such as A4, A6 and Superb.

Thanks Crasher. Mine were absolutely like brand new, no sign whatsoever of corrosion or loose connections at all. I pulled each and every wire to make sure it had a good connection, I could only do the top half of the connector block as this is the section you have to remove in order to lift the electronics box out. l checked in the bottom half and they were sparkling. I still gave everything a dose of WD40 before assembly. I'm not sure what a main dealer would have charged me for labour, it took me a couple of minutes over 2 hours.
Tell me, do any of your customers have second thoughts about letting you test drive their motors with a name like CRASHER? regards Jim

A couple of minutes to remove the wipers, scuttle trim and complete plenum chamber electrical box, boy you are fast!

My nickname Crasher was earned when I was a little chap but reinforced during ones earlier motoring days, thankfully I have been less impact prone over the last 20 years or so but the name stuck.
