right , before i changed the oil i removed oil filler cap and noticed their is a layer of black film not thick at all.
so before i change oil would a flush be reccomended or just make sure the engine is well warm before i drain the oil?
    thanks

Is this a black film of liquid oil, or caked-on carbon?

If its black oil.... proceed as normal, with a warmish engine

If you use a diesel spec oil for the 1000 miles it will help to clean-it-out gently

a big thanks for your replies , im planning on a 700 mile round trip next week so would it be a good idea to do 350mile straight run with the diesel oil? , sorry if it sounds dumb but what spec diesel oil would you recommend ?. presumable a more expensive one would just be a waste of good grade oil for a 1000 mile

Stick to the oil Crasher recommended above for both changes
