I am trying to find out why my A6 is so thirsty.
I am wondering if it is down to the injectors. I have logged some data of injected quantity and difference of all cylinders to cylinder 2. Injected quantity says between 3 and 8mg/str. At all revs the quantity is between 10 and 16. I guess this is quite alot over what it should be.
Have the injectors come to there end of the life? What will I need to replace these, if they are the problem. I have seen on ebay second hand injectors and injector nozzles. what is the difference. I am guessing I may only need the nozzles on the guess that the jet has opened up with wear.
Can anyone help. Its a great car I just want it to stay longer than its going to if I cant sort it out. It doesnt help that there is now a dirty great scratch down the passanger side on what is a 11 year old dint and chip free car.
    Thanks Phil

Those injectors tend to block and under fuel rather than over fuel. I would start with fitting a new Air Mass Meter, a genuine VAG dealer supplied exchange one. If ever I get a problem with those injectors I give them to a local diesel specialist who is excellent and they rebuild them for me.

Or it could be the primary injector thats gone. Its in No 3 cyl and has the electrical lead coming from it.
Had the same sort of issue, ie thirsty. I have an ex German car so its all metric. Consumption went up from mid 8 ltrs/ 100k to over 10. Sourced an injector in Germany for 350 Euros, genuine Bosch and fitted it in an afternoon. Consumption dropped steadily back to 8.4, where it seems to be staying. Expensive fix but its paying me back each time i fill the tank!
