    Hi folks,

Just had 100k service at a local independents and the mechanic advised that he'd found oil contamination in the fuel filter when he changed it. He thinks a fuel injector seal is leaking and he says this is OK for now but that I need to get this fixed sooner or later.

Should I be worried and get this done asap or can I delay for a few weeks while I try to find the funds to cover the costs of the repair? Any idea if this is a costly repair?

I've had this Passat 55 plate 2006 2.0TDI Sport (BKP) for just over 15 months now and it feels like I'm starting to get a service jinx with it. 1st service at 80k and the car developed an airbag fault as I drove out the garage forecourt - connector plug alongside passenger seat was replaced as a good will gesture by local VW garage. 2nd service and got a phone call from local VW advising that the car was ready to be picked up - a short while later got another phone call and was asked not to collect it just yet as the valeter had noticed an engine management light on the dash when he moved it to wash it as part of the service. This turned out to be an air flow flap which helps to create a vacuum to shut down the engine. This was eventually replaced by the VW garage but only after the warranty company accepted the claim. And then this service needed a CV boot and then the fuel contamination issue.

Am I or is this car jinxed when it comes to service time? Seems to fly through the MOT tho

    Cheers guys,

    Scottie

if you have a injector seal on the way out id have a word with your local VW dealer it seems VW are replacing faulty injectors for free because of so many injectors failing on the PD engine. the oil leak shorts the electrical side of the injector and to protect itself the ECU shuts all the injectors down. if this happens on the outside lane of a busy motorway say no more.

It is possible your garage is correct but unlikely. The tandem pump is leaking oil into the fuel lines. You need a new tandem pump, not injector seals.

The mechanic showed me the fuel out of the fuel filter and it was black not the usual diesel colour. I've put the car on vcds and its not showing any faults. How likely us it to be the tandem pump then and what sort of damage to my wallet can u expect?

    Cheers,

    Scottie

Tandem pump leak is fairly common. Cost of pump is about £300 plus fitting. You could just ignore it but some people think the oil damages the injectors and you don't want that to happen.

Does anyone out there know if replacing the tandem fuel pump is a major undertaking?

    Cheers in advance,

It's a fairly simple nuts and bolts job. The tandem pump is bolted to the end of the cylinderhead.
