    Hi all,

Was wondering if anyone would beable to offer advise regarding a braking judder that has appeared over the last few days.
I replaced front pads and discs on my GT TDI 130 3 Dr 02Reg about a month ago with Pagid parts as was advised they would be ideal for the Golf and I made sure they where bed in correctly so that i would not have any problems lol.
I have also recently had my 2nd power steering rack fitted to the car and had the tracking setup correctly. So this should not be an issue hopefully.

When i brake with any force at all the steering wheel judders quiet violently and feels dangerous to be honest as the car currently running 185bhp.

Would anyone beable to point me in the right direction to resolve this issue please. Without having to possibly replace the Pagid brake pads as i had no idea that this would cause a problem. Also just to confirm the brake fuild is due a change but i didnt think this would cause a problem but thought i would meation just incase

    Cheers

Get the lower ball joints checked. sometimes a shake left/right of the wheel wont show this play, you need a good prybar to give it a good check.
If it was pads/disk, i saaume it would do it at low speed too.

I would expect you to have a warped disc so the run out of both the discs and the hubs needs to be checked using a dial gauge. If the hub run out is less than 0.03-mm and the disc run out is more, throw the discs back at the supplier, if the hub run out exceeds 0.03-mm, fit a new hub and wheel bearing BUT the warped hub will have distorted the disc so that will also have to be replaced. I got so sick and tired of warped Golf 4 discs from various manufacturers that I will no longer supply and fit anything other than genuine VAG dealer supplied discs. If a customer wants another make they can supply them and I will fit them but if the car starts pulsing under braking I want nothing to do with it.

can the hub warp after new disks? You would assume it would have been warped before the disks/pads changed and would have vibrated under heavy braking before new kit fitted..

It is unlikely to warp after new discs but it can and you will need to be armed with the run out figures when going back to the supplier of the discs. Either way I would start off with a discs run out check and then a hub run out to know where I stood.

    Hi Crasher,
I have the same probelm so will get my Hubs and Disks tested. I have a feeling mine will be out but before I do that I am going to get the tracking looked at first.

If this works I will buy you a pint!!

Not an expert in this: but do you not have to be very careful in cleaning the seating area between new disc and hub? Any dirt/rust left in place could result in a mid-aligned new disc. Maybe.

Yes the surface must be spotless. If it is badly rusted when we strip them down we sometimes have to run the engine in gear and use a flat block with 80 grit to polish it smooth and then we paint a very thin smear of Würth aluminium paste on to seal and protect. In such cases I would also do a run-out check paying particular attention to the areas on the outside edge of each bolt hole, as shown in my (years ago) picture.
