Thanks to all...especially the exhaustive ( sorry! ) assistance from Crusher........trying now to source the replacemnet part fromGSF or Euro Parts...will keep you posted.

Nb got the official brush off from VW yesterday....what they say about internet forums is quite daming ( on them as I see it) ....am I allowed / able to ad scans of this letter to the forum? If I am allowqed can I can scan no problem but don't know how to 'upload it to this thread?
I'd like to share it with all those who have shared their knowledge and helped me thus far....as far as I am concerned it is a 'thnaks...but get lost' letter.
Will post more when i know more........nb car still running perfectly well....perhaps with a tiny 'run-on' when I turn off ignition.

VW UK have 496 in stock, TPS depots can sell 7 a week, nearly every dealer keeps 2 in stock, one dealer has 11 on the shelf when if they need one it can be there next day so for VW UK to say it is not a common is complete rubbish. To be honest I think it is THE single most common problem on the BKD engined Golf 5 bar none!

To a certain extent I think I will probably agree with what I assume VW have said about internet forums, a massive amount of what I read on various sites is misinformed, wrong, misleading and sometimes even dangerous BUT there is good information out there, you just have to find it.

Agreed, yes, of course like most things in life you have to sort the wheat from the chaff, but here, as on other sites there are some excellent techs like yourself, Audi A8, PeterD as well as a fair smattering of knowledgable owners / DIY ers who find solutions to problems / issues.
Some of these issues can be expensive to repair potentially and £££ if not ££££ can sometimes be saved.

I admin on a Jaguar forum where there has been some ingenious solutions to long standing issues with older cars, convertible hoods and various other issues, so much so that some have been manufactured for a very small profit and sold on to other members with the exact same issue, to help them with the fix.

Glad you got it resolved and once again Kudos to all those who helped to make it possible!

Just ordered replacement parts to sort my throttle body/intake manifold flap problem, £232 from eurocarparts but they currently have money off deal, type in "JULYB25" in the checkout and get 25% off, so 'only' paid £174 for replacement part. It's the Pierburg one- part no 422440260.

They're only advertising 15% off promo code at min but the 25% off one that I noted last week still works. Discount is on until the end of this month.

Hopefully get time to fit at the weekend and replace the blown fuse.

Crasher........I'd like to throw VW letter back at them with your figures in it...even if they say i cannot prove it....I'll ask them if it's true...perhaps freedom of informatiion etc might...just might....force their hand.........BUT I'd like your blessing to do that....and will understnd if it is witheld.....but if you agree I don't know what the TPS in TPS depots stands for....and VW Uk?...I assume is a central warehouse?
And to Paul ...who has hopefully put me onto a discount code for the part.....A1 to all of you.

Good news- fitted new intake manifold flap and replaced fuse and warning light has now cleared- can hear flap operating. Old unit was totally gummed up so no wonder it stopped working. Bit of a faff getting the bolt out the back but worth the effort- done in an hour! Thanks for those who contributed on these pages, worked a treat!

Only trouble is car refusing to start after I changed the fuel filter, any thoughts or advice appreciated! https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?122609-Just-renewed-fuel-filter-now-engine-wont-start!

    cheers

It should start straight away then stop and start again after some protracted cranking.

Crasher / Paul....... first the very positive news and thanks... had trouble registering online with Europarts....so did it over the phone and they STILL honoured the 25% discount using the code ...so a price for the 'throttle body' of £179.00 inc vat....
I am using WILSONS...an indy VW centre in Rhuddlan N Wales...and they offerd to match the europart price without waiting for the post / delivery service...so a good service. Price to fit £40.00 +vat.
NOT SO GOOD NEWS..... after new part fitted ...just 10 miles down the road....same B******* light and message came on..... ...Wilsons checked again with VAG gear and SAME ***** fault with EGR ( exhaust Gas recycling I think) shows up.... they now think that pipes into / out of the new 'throttle body' could be as carboned up as the 'throttle body ' itself was...and to remove / refit these on the BKD engine is a big ..and thus expensive... job.
They have offerd to try and 'soak' these pipes for me ( with what?? ) ...and hopefully clear the problem ....but for the 'soaking' they need the car for 24 - 36 hours...a real PAIN!!...... any thoughts? Remember that my car has still only just done 26 K..........My sincere thanks in advance.
AND Carsher....letter to VW UK quoting the stock nos etc is on the way to them
