Morning all,

My trusty old 97 Passat has slowly ground to a halt, no boost at all, took the boost pipe off only to find the turbo is seized completely solid.

Is it worth putting a reconditioned unit on? I only paid 700 for the car a year ago and the engine was and still is driving fine (obviously with no boost). The Turbo oil seals are still intact so I'm hoping a strait turbo swap will fix the issue?

The car has done 169,000 miles. My only concern is what caused the turbo to sieze, and if I put a new unit on could it seize again soon?? Is there anything I can check to see if its worth changing the turbo?

Any advice on this is appreciated.

Also, does anyone know anywhere good in South Wales for a cheap recon'd turbo?
