I have just bought VCDS 10.4 and it works well. Can anyone tell me:

    (1) How do I de-code the VCDS fault codes, generally what is the process ? For example, does one just type the numeric code and / or the P code into the main Search box on the Ross-Tech website ?

    (2) If I type in "03041" in the main Search box on the Ross-Tech website, all I get is someone else's Cut and Paste of their VCDS output with no explanation of what 03041 is. So specifically how would I find out what VCDS fault code 03041 actually is and any others (if that is a possibility) where it is not listed on the Ross Tech web site ?

    Thank you

    My fault code scan is:

    Kite,

Thank you for your reply. That is a great start.

I see that the wiki link lists 704 fault codes, not the 14,000 that VCDS checks and specifically fault code 03041 (Energy Management Code) is not amoung those listed.

So just as a specimen example, is their any routine way that you more expert guys would get an explanation of a code like "03041 Energy Management Code".

As that code is not listed on the wiki, an Email to Rosstech should help.
there are more experienced people with VCDS than me on here, maybe a PM to A8tech or Crasher, they may be able to shed some light.
By nthe wat VCDS is now at 10.6

looks like fault was gererated 3 days ago at 7:04am (going to work maybe??) and its only happened once (fault frequency:1).
have you cleared fault to see if it reappears.

A different post I read is suggesting a faulty battery. Did you have a starting issue then?

Never heard of that code, but I'd guess the alternator is not providing enough current and the ECU is trying to make the best of it by using it only where strictly necessary. Worth a battery and charging check.

VCDS can only 'read' whatever the various ECUs output. Half of it undoccumented whatever you read it with. The label files VCDS uses for some controllers are a great help. I heard many VW techs use VDCS on occasions...

I am not sure what you are asking.
    03041 - Energy Management Active

The code is 03041 and the description of the code is Energy Management Active. That is what it is. I presume you are asking what the code means and what to do about it.
The codes are just that, code number plus a description. They are built into VCDS, so what you see is what you get.
Now you have to find out what it means and what might cause it.
    Is tha car an audi.
