  1. Turbo boost, oil pressure and voltmeter gauge installation.

Have decided to install turbo boost, oil pressure and voltmeter gauges in my Mk4 Golf GT TDi PD 150 in a triple gauge holder mounted into the dash in place of the CD player (not needed).

Was wondering if anyone has any experience with installation of these gauges? I'm pretty good with a bit of DIY and wondered if they're difficult to install??

I think I understand what needs to be done for installation of the boost gauge but am wondering about the voltmeter and oil pressure gauges???

If anyone has any experience with installation of any of these I would really appreciate a point in the right direction.

    Cheers.
    J.

I've only just joined so apologies for the delay in adding a few comments.
The voltmeter wiring is straightforward as long as you can gain access to the wiring loom at the apppropraite point. You need one connection to a feed that is live only when the ignition is on, another to a suitable earth point and a final connection into the sidelight circuit. If you can identify the three wires involved then the easiest method of connecting the gauge wiring would be to use three ' scotchloks' which simply clip over the appropriate wires and cables (Try Halfords).
As for the oil pressure gauge. I've fitted a VDO gauge to mark 2 amd mark 3 Golfs in the past and have found the hardest part of the job to be finding a suitable routing for the sensor lead from the sender unit to the gauge. The most important point is to make sure you get the correct sender unit with the appropriate thread (M1 x 10mm on the mark 2 and 3 Golf) or a suitable adaptor if the thread on your sender does not match that at the filter housing. Try and get a twin contact sender as this will enable you to retain the oil pressure warning light. You will need to run a wire from the other contact up to the dash to connect at the back of the gauge. The other three connections required at the gauge end will be a live feed (when the ignition is on, only), and earth and a connection to the sidelight circuit. I hope that this info is not too late.

Thanks for the quick reply. And the file, although for the TDI, saved! Will be getting the 1/8"NPT "T" piece.
Hopefully that'll be the correct one for the 2L tFSI.
Will try and do some pix at the same time as install

Just don't like being left to an on/off sender with light on dash. Mate's got a Toyota Previa (don't spit ;-)
And at 95,000 mile of family driving, the light came on and the engine seized -- £1,110 +VAT later...
