Hi everyone,

I have a '96 Audi Avant with ADR engine that has done 203K miles.

I've had the car 2½ years and had very few problems with it. (water pump. brake caliper, exhaust and a few other bits and bobs) but the engine runs well, apart from unsteady tickover that settles down after 2 - 3 seconds.

Anyhow I've decided its about time I changed the timing belt as I don't know when it had been changed before I got the car. A couple of questions....

1. I've been to my local motor factors to price up parts and discovered that there is a 152 tooth and 153 tooth belt available for my model. How do I find out which belt fits my vehicle without taking it off?

2. There is also a timing belt kit with a vibration damper - do I need one of these?

3. Any help/advice from anyone who has carried out this operation would be appreciated.

I do have a few other small problems but I'll make a separate post for these.

Thanks in anticipation
