    Hi All,

    Wondered if you can help?

I would like to know if there was a simple way to bleed the cooling system on a 2004 A4 1.9TDI?
I have just had a new waterpump and oil cooler fitted and now have no heat coming from my vents.

Next problem is an intermittent noise like the alternator clutch pulley (not that, as it was also changed yesterday) . On investigating today I seem to be able to get it to do the noise if I turn the interior fans off....Any ideas?

Temperature gauge seems fine gets to 90C and doesn't seem to alter but wondering if the noise could be the thermostat as it seems to be around that area.
If a thermostat is broken/faulty could it make a clicking noise?

    Cheers

It wont be the stat, its totally silent in operation, dont assume the new pulley is ok.with regard to the air lock set the heater to full heat and loosen some of the return pipes with the engine running see if you can coax the air out.

Pull a heater hose back at the bulkhead to expose the bleed hole, and vent-off air till good flow of water flows out.

As above re the bleed screw, just mind they stick in on some vehicles! also try squeezing/pumping the hoses to push the air round the system, just mind your hands on the belts/fan!

    Thanks for the replies.

Are both of those coolant hoses (near battery) supposed to be hot? As on mine only the bottom one is....

The mechanic who did the work struggled using the right tools so don't really want to attempt to loosen it.

    No both should be hot.
As the other guys have said, undo the hose clip on the top hose of the matrix with a pliars.
Pull forward until you see a small pin hole, dont pull forward further then this as the hose will come off.
Now just let the car turn over now for about 20 minutes.

You must be very patient here as it will take this long for the air to come out.
You could bring the revs up to 1200rpm (no more) every now and then to progress the operation..

Its v slow but coolant will eventually appear..

I have just tried and can't get my pliers anywhere near the clip to compress it.
I have standard pliers is there a special type I need?

It does'nt help that the clip is pointing downwards though.....will take it the specialist this afternoon.

    Cheers

When you turn the interior fans off, i think you are also
turning the A/C off and disengaging the A/C compressor.

So, maybe the clutch-pulley on the A/C compressor
    needs looking-at.

    Regards
    Jim

    PS. Nice motor!

Shouldn't be too difficult to get too. Standard pliars might be awkard alright.
I used a "long nosed bent pliers". Just google these for a picture
