I did mine with a recharger on the slave points in the engine bay (ref your owners manual) or Link:- MMI 2G Hi Update. Any issues?

People have done it with the engine running but I'm not a fan of that as when flashing you really don't want voltage variance,etc...

Empty CD changer use slot one... the MMI FW update will only update what needs to be updated... ref the screenshots in the PDF above...

Hi, been told by the audi specialist not to use disc 2 if I have Bluetooth?

Look mate... put disc two in your PC... explore the disc... it has updates for bluetooth on it...

Early hardware versions of bluetooth modules can sometimes not like a flash update but other modules in your car may not as well...

    Flashing is not risk free...
have a search of the forum via the search box top right...

Use google and search for mmi flashing failure or mmi update issue ... etc etc etc ...

All info here/on web... make you mind up and do what you wish...

Try to use as least amount of electrical items in car when flashing, use a charger...

AC/blower can be switched off by holding down "Econ on/off" button... switch off interior lights, any "Auto" functions like coming/leaving home lights, etc,etc ...

    Night night from me ...

Good luck & best wishes ...

Thanks for that advice, much appreciated. Bit nervous about the whole thing! Managed to borrow a charger for the weekend, so fingers crossed! Thanks again : )

    Hi,

Look if I told you I was not worried when I did mine I'd be lying...

Mine is a 2005 A6... it had MMI version 2120... I had a very early bluetooth module... my VIN is a very low one... trust me I've been doing lots to my car...

At times I wish and didn't need to... why you must be told of risk is so you make the decision...

I did update as my phone kept cutting out... also MMI update stops battery drain depending on your current version (don't ask which version as I don't know)...

I also updated as I was going to do AMI/DAB retro fit... so I had a lotta reasons to do it...

I made the decision to do it so if it went bad on my shoulders it rested...

If your car have no electrical/other hidden issues and you use recharger in my opinion you should be ok ...

I'm just an owner sharing my experience like others have done...

Now it is defo night night ...

And again best wishes and good luck ...

    Regards
    G

    Hi

just to say, did the update : ) albeit with a lot of apprehension!

it went smoothly, retro fitted the ami, everything works, didn't have any issues just lost the standard couple of things like the battery status and trip computer items, but located someone with vcds. So hopefully can be re enabled

thanks for the advice, it's been very helpful and thanks to turbo herbie who has also been a great help, and finally to sparker for the instructions, was very easy to follow!!

I too have just updated my s/w to 5570, with help from Gupster, A6_Chris and A6H**.

I bought the 3 x disc set from eBay at the suggested link and the discs arrived within 2 x working days. What I didn't have was instructions but I have a PDF on them now, thanks to someone on this forum.

Purely by chance, I tried holding Setup + Return simultaneously, for 5 seconds (more like 3.5 I'd say) and hence got to the update screen.

    So,

1 - remove all CDs from CD autochanger in glove-box.
2- open sunroof and all windows.
3- set light switch to 0 or off (12 o'clock on my car)
4 - set internal light switch to off
5 - set fan on heater/climate control to 1 (I have an aversion to switching off AC)
6 - connect battery charger to lugs on right-hand side under bonnet
7 - load setup disc 1 into position 1 of CD player
8 - read up and down various menu items, attempt to change language, wonder what it all means, then scroll down and press download.
9 - sit looking at various update screens, watch % climb towards 100
10 - realise it's easier to leave it for a while
11 - return, read update summary for disc 1, press big button to restart MMI
12 - start to worry as nothing happens for a while
13 - turn ignition off and on, read PDF from helpful forum member and realise ignition can be off but you need to wait 2' (two minutes) between MMI power-cycles
14 - Repeat with Disc 2. Disc 2 does it's upgrade very quickly.
15 - Following advice on here and in the PDF, re-run Disc 2 s/w download and watch a very sloooooow climb to 100% this time.
16 - Power cycle MMI for a third time.
17 - Insert Disc 3, go through procedure as per previously.
    18 - Disc 3 finishes quickly, power-cycle MMI.
19 - Remove disc, charger, close bonnet, start car.
20 - Phew, all okay, bar batt. meter has gone.

    Connect VCDS - text below from Technical Service Bulletin 91 07 13 March 5, 2007, 2014127/1
14.Select 07 - Display/control unit and add 32 to the adaptation value of adaptation channel 2. The battery
charge status will then be displayed again.
15.Perform the required SVM Update using action code:
    • NA4FK730 for the A6.
    • NA4EK730 for the A8.
    • NA4LK730 for the Audi Q7.
For further SVM update instructions and troubleshooting, please refer to the SVM Operating
    Manual; ElsaWeb TSB 2011732.

You buy the 5570 update discs. Do a further search and you'll find part numbers and a few hints and tips.

If you're not having any issues then I wouldn't bother.
