    Hi

Despite Audi saying it doesn't need doing, does anybody know of a reliable and trustworthy place (preferably in Hampshire or at least south of London) that would change the transmission fluid and filter in my Tiptronic (not multitronic) gearbox. I really want to find someone that knows what they are doing i.e the importance of the correct fluid, checking the level at the correct temperature etc.

    Thanks in advance

Look up automatic transmision specialists - Rebuilders. They know what is required.

Not gearbox rebuilders, which are a lot more common, but do not tough auto's

Go to a main dealer and get the job done right, its worth the extra few pounds and you have a come back if anything goes wrong.

In some ways I agree with you, but one of my local dealers (Southampton Audi) couldn't be bothered to ring back with a quote and the other (Basingstoke) have quoted me £495 all in. The reason being their hourly rate of £120 + VAT (£144) which I think is nothing short of a rip off - lets face it , you are paying for their plush showrooms with leather settees and coffee machines as much as anything, which is not value adding. I actually have it booked in now at Crucial Automatics in Titchfield, Hants who specialise in Auto boxes (has anybody on the forum used them?). I will report back - hopefully in a very positive manner.

    Thanks for all your replies.

Well, I took it in and got the job done on April 19th. It wasn't bad but needed doing and they were quite happy to allow me to watch and ask questions while they did the job. Crucial Automatics could be described as a 'back street' garage in their small, cluttered workshop (they do have a 'cleanroom' for the rebuilds) but they certainly know what they talking about where auto 'boxes are concerned (they had a tiptronic 'box from an A8 which they had stripped and rebuilt at the time I was there) and I would definately recommend them.
