Hi, Can anyone suggest anything I might try to fix this ......

    A4 2.0 tdi 170 2007

A lot of the time it's ok but now and then ( about 20% of the times ) it starts to tickover really lumpy, the revcounter stays between 800 and 1000 but is not staying still. Whilst driving it is fine and shows no symptoms and other times it ticks over fine.

The oil and air filters are quite new and it's had a new egr valve.

I'm using what I hope is decent fuel ( shell ) which I always buy from the same place as I have for years.

    Many thanks

I had a similar thing the other day, did about 100 miles driving motorway so car was well warmed up, left the wife in the car to pop into a shop and left car ticking over.

I came back from shop an she told me the car was shaking/rumbling told me she thought i was going to blow up so she turned it off, i just put it down to the fact that she pretty new to diesels, only thing i noticed was a slight rumbling from the engine but recently but nothing violent or distressing thinking it needs work.

someone mentioned in the forums about various issues that are engine related and that could cause this.

i just keep my eye on the rev counter when stationery to see if revs rise and fall dramatically if they do think i may pass by the garage for a once over
"Do you hear that? Its the sound of Inevitability!"
