Hey there, first post on the site, apologies if it's in the wrong place.
Just got hold of a mk3 1.6 8valve, think its the AEA engine ? 1995.

Mint car, but lacking a bit in the grunt area.

Was wandering how much work would go into putting a slightly bigger engine in, such as a 2.0 16 valve?
I am aware that obviously the brain (ECU) and the gearbox, drive shaft etc would also need to be installed into the car. And also the wiring from the ecu to the engine.

What else would need to be done, and as for the wiring harness, would it be a complete harness needed, as in everything in the car, stereo, wing mirror, wiring loom need to be included, or can you get away with just the wiring loom for the engine part of the car ?

The car i have also has ABS.

You would need a complete donor car as the 16v GTI is a very different car, right down to the quite different front and rear suspension, brakes etc. My feelings, “want a GTI, go buy a GTI!”
