    hi
    i have 2006 2.0 tdi 140 bhp passat and the steering started giving problems red and yellow light flashing on / off and would not start . got mechanic to clear codes and said he would order steering lock . worked fine for a day then car would not even turn over , not evev given an ignianion light just bleeping and red steering light flashing. how do i release hand brake to bring to mechanic and what is now the problem ??? please help https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/i...ilies/zx11.gif

    If I remember correctly there was a recall on the steering column and the control unit. Im not 100% as the master tech at our garage used to do them all. but he changed hundreds for faults like what you are having.

    It may be worth ringing your local dealer and ask about it because we had loads of problems with them when they first came out.

    Only a dealer can recode the new lock to the car. How did you mechanic manage that bit ?

    Just had mine done and as Martin says it's dealer only for this. Cost me £375 fitted, used to be a case of changing the whole column till VeeDub brought out a repair kit for it. Expensive, but better than paying a grand for a new column

    have not brought to dealer yet as i cant get out of drive way .... how do i free the electric hand brake ??? can anybody help ???

    Someone said on here recently that the steering was the subject of a recall in the States only.

    Strikes me as a bit of an 'up yours' to the Brits. Wonder where else it was a recall?

    If the rear brakes are stuck on...Take off the motor and wind the piston pusher back a few turns with a torx bit. Then put motor back. Don't use epb after this as it will need resetting.
