    Hi All,

According to the diagnostic advice found here on the forum, it seems I have a faulty parking sensor...great

I'll speak to my local dealer for a price and part number tomorrow, but if anyone has purchased recently, please let me know. A couple of threads suggest in the region of £100 for the painted part, yet this thread links to the full rear parking sensor kits for not much more.

Fitting wise, the various threads are a little contradictory...some suggest a 5 minute job, some say a bumper off job. The failed sensor is second from the left...or third from the right...or left middle

As always, any help much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Ed.

I'm assuming your talking ebay* (or similar), because I'm not aware of Audi doing original equipment painted park sensors, and not for £40 either. More like £65 inc vat and only in paintable (primed) 7H0919275D Gru

Yes you can order sensors pre painted and always have been able to
The option is available on etka and I base the cost on trade discount roughly but can get exact cost if you won't to be **** lol

According to my local dealer's parts department:

    1) Parking sensor primed (7H0919275D) = £82.67 inc VAT; plus
    2) Painting (not available pre-painted in my colour code - LX7Z) = £36 inc VAT (for 1" diameter circle!)

    £118.67 for one - extortionate!!!

I know it's not the end of the world, but I begrudge paying so much for so little.

P.S. Whilst I'm sorting this, can the faulty sensor be deactivated leaving the three working sensors to do their job?

Yes... Thats because for the B7 A4 you cannot buy factory sensors pre-painted from Audi. (contrary to what else has been stated on here). Only primed versions for the rear and either 'grey' or 'black' for the 2 front inner sensors to match your grille/number plate plinth colour.

Wow! they've gone up a bit since I priced one for my car.

The painting charge is high(ish) probably because of the minimum amount of paint made during the mix process.
You can always have a go yourself order a 'rattlecan' from Audi (about £13) in your colour.
    Or
Order one from the german ebay link I posted earlier. Edit Sorry they don't list one in your colour either. Might be worth a question, though. Speak German?

Yeah, a bit much huh?! I appreciate why the paint costs so much, but it doesn't soften the blow any. I have genuine Audi touch up paint which I'm sure would do the job as a last resort (if not, I'll strip it back and have it done properly).

Already asked 'ze Germans' whether they can supply in my paint code. Doubt my GCSE German will get me far, so I've sent the Q in English

    Ta,

No joy for my paint code from the eBay link, so looks like it's a touch-up paint and lacquer job. The sensor is still much cheaper from eBay though, so will be ordering from there.

How exactly does the sensor fit in the bumper? I managed to get my arm up behind the bumper today and could feel the wiring and sensor unit, but was't sure I could get the sensor out without breaking something. Is there a clip or something similar?

    Thanks again,

    Ed.
