Have 07 plate Estate, with intermittent alarm, garage say horn is faulty and replacement/labour will cost £250. Fault 01134 comes up. I have located siren module, under wheel arch cover driver's side, but it is encased in a galvanised box that looks riveted on. Thought of buying a new horn and replacing myself but am stumped at getting the alarm off. Has anyone tried this before and can assist? Thanks

It's put on with snap-off head safety bolts. You can sometimes tap the stubs loose or drill them out.

Martin1810 - spent all morning getting access to this box but its up against the top of front wing and I failed to find the last remaining bolts holding that on. Without the wing off there is no room to get at the horn and the snap off bolts really don't help but suppose it is doing its job as an anti-theft device. Will either wait until Haynes manual arrives to help me find the last bolts holding the wing on or follow somone else's previous advice about locking the car without activiating the aalrm for now. It should just be a case of drilling out the two bolts. One each side of the box. Then the box should pull off.

That does look like the only way, but I still will have to get the front wing off and that was where I got stuck yesterday. The would appear to be 2 bolts up behind the front bumber that I couldn't get to, so for now I'll wait for the Haynes manual. I don't think that VW have made things easy without alot of work just to change the alarm horn.
