I use Febi 6R type bushes now for standard work, sometimes I use the Leon Cupra R type but poly bushes are great.

Ignore the Audi A3 bit, there seems to be an error on the page for the Golf 4 but these are the same as the Golf 4.

Both types are lovely and tighten up the handling plush they are easier to install.

    That tool cost nearly £1K!

Is that how much I could expect to pay for a tool to remove the bushes?!?!

For one that can push out the steel bushes, yes. That is a ten tonne hydraulic ram and even that struggles, needing the help of a 3lb copper lump hammer being beaten onto the press tool at the same time as someone is putting all their weight on the hydraulic pump. The bangs the bush makes as it comes out still make me jump. The others on the market at around £150 are for removing and installing the plastic bushes which is much easier. Most garages cut out the steel bush and use the cheap tool to fit the new plastic type.

Thanks again for all your help with this guys.

Have had the bushes sorted and the car is a pleasure to drive again! Had forgotten how uncomfortable ruined bushes make the ride.

    Cheers,
    Jonny.
