And so for it's next trick, the throttle pedal died on the motorway today. I was using cruise control, cancelled it to slow down, then went to accelerate and nothing. A quick off and back on and it came back. Now when I start the car, the only way to have a working throttle pedal is to pump the pedal while starting the car. then it's fine.

I've scanned it, and came back with:

    1 Fault Found:
    18047 - Accelerator Position Sensor 1/2 (G79/G185): Implausible Signal
    P1639 - 35-00 - -

Having searched, it would seem its a dead pedal. It's odd though that when I go to measuring block 10 it always show its opperating as it should, but then when I searched someone said it has 2 sensors, and if they dont match, then it throws this error and a new pedal is required. I've checked the carpets, all dry, plenum is all clear (bungs removed years ago), so I guess its just another one of "those things".

So far in the last year I've had the following faults. NSF and OSF door locks faulty microswitches, dead injector wiring loom, broken loom in drivers door, dead auto dimming mirror, dead horn sounder, dead boot release switch (in handle), knackered track rod ends, brake pad sensor always on - broken wire somewhere, clutch slipping badly (but remapped, so this I can accept), plus other niggly faults. It's been by far the most unreliable car I've ever owned. The door locks, throttle pedal, mirror and boot switch have all failed in the past month (all at different times), and I'm really getting towards the end of my tether with it now!

This weekend I'll do the door locks and pedal, and then see how I get on with it, fingers crossed.

Under the bonnet in the plenum chamber on the right of the car. Wipers off, scuttle trim out and remove the ECU box cover, the ECU and unplug the wiring. You may find some of the pins are green with corrosion. The box is almost directly above the throttle pedal.

Thanks Crasher, I've ordered a new pedal as I'm at work all day, an if I didn't then I wouldn't have it til next week sometime. I'll check the ecu connectors before picking it up in the morning.

Is the alarm horn under the scuttle somewhere? I had a look with a torch last night but couldn't see it. It did sound like a clicking was coming from that area when the alarm is activated tho.

You have a problem with the plenum chamber drains, the alarm horn is full over water and water is getting in under the ECU box.

The alarm sounder has never Worked to my knowledge, but has only recently thrown an error code. There is no sitting water in there right now, I checked it's length, and it was damp as expected after a day sitting in the rain, but no accumulation. I guess I'll know more once I've had a good look around tomorrow morning. There was no tide mark son the brake servo either, but lots of dust all over it, again leading me to believe the drains are all clear. Fingers crossed

Well I changed the pedal, all sorted No evidence of water in the ecu box, sound proofing around the lip of the hole was totally dry, but I did manage to create another fault; 19466 - Relay for Fuel Cooling Pump (J445): Open or Short to Ground
    P3010 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent

After googling "J445 relay", I found this document: http://www.myarchive.us/richc/VW_TDI_with_PumpeDuse.pdf Which showed the relay to be in the ECU box under the bonnet. Wipers off again, scuttle off, box opened, and there was a relay (although not labelled as j445) that was slightly adrift. Pushed it back home and rescanned, fault cleared, all good I guess I must have caught it with the lid of the box when I removed it.

Anyway, all sorted, now on to some of the other faults.....
