Hi just joined up and was looking for any ideas. I have owned my 2002 A4 1.9tdi 130 sport for 5 1/2 years now and its just hit 130k miles.

About 2 weeks ago the ESP light came on and the car went to limp mode, after 5 mins the glow plug light started flashing. When I turned the car off and on again, all seemed well. Next day the ESP light came on again and after restarting it was OK and has been since.

It now seems to be 'bogging' down when setting off and between gears, it also occasionaly if you lift off the throttle (in third) an put your foot down again it seems to missfire.

Has anyone had the same problem?

Sorry for the essay but wanted to cover everything!!

Thanks Kite, brake lights are working, have lost a headlight bulb tho'

put it on a cheap ODB2 hand held scanner last night which plugged in near the bonnet release and it said no faults. Will a garage scanner pick up faults this hasn't? Do the cars store previous faults?

the brake light switch is a double switch, it sends info to the ECU and the brake lightsa.
If you look in the vagcom section you may find a member in your area to scan the car with VCDS.

May not be this but I had the missfire and ESP light on with my 2.5TDI recently .No faults showed on VAGCOM except poss brocken wire and someone said the injector loom may have a bad connection so I did my best to check and tighten the connectors and so far after 3 weeks no recurrence.

Got the car checked today and the only fault code was for an engine mount solenoid Why do the engine mounts have solenoid valves?

Also, my drivers side headlight dipped beam bulb has blown, how do I get to change it please?

The engine mounts are active i.e. they stiffen and soften dependant on engine load, dont think its the cause of your esp light though,do a search of posts for brake pedal switch.
