when buying VCDS both main suppliers are about same price, Ilexa offer support and software on CD which Gendan don't appear to, apart from that is there any preference as to which one I should use. Assume all future support would come from Ross-tech anyway so is local support of any additional benefit. Real world experience would be great thanks

The only people allowed to distribute Ross Tech software is Ross Tech.

Offering their software on CD is (or was the last time this came up) not permitted.

Both are approved resellers, but I was always under the impression Ross Tech were the only people allowed to distribute the software side of things.

Seems I'm getting muddled with third party cable sellers and fully authorised legitimate resellers - as you were

Ilexa has a written agreement with Ross-Tech allowing them to distribute the software on a CD as they felt it was better service for them. Gendan abides by our intent that all would download software from the Ross-Tech website. Both distributors are in good standing with Ross-Tech.

Third parties who are not listed on our distributor page are distributing our software illegally. We overlook those that distribute v409 because you can no longer get a license for 409. We do go after those that are distributing VCDS-Lite.

Any party, other than those listed on our distributor page, claiming they have the VAG-COM 5XX or higher on CD, are illegally distributing our software. They are not permitted to do so. Any party, other than those listed on our distributor page, claiming to distribute VCDS (any version) on CD are illegally distributing our software. We do our best to stop all of these parties from doing so but unfortunately, that is difficult to do. And of course, all the people willing to buy illegal products make this easy for the thieves to conduct their illegal activity, almost justifying it by saying Ross-Tech sells their product for too much money.

The fact of the matter is, we provide a good solid product with good support. We deserve to be properly compensated to provide that service. We are not getting rich on what we do. But like any business, we have salaries to pay, materials to buy, etc. You can't get a product that does what VCDS does for near the price of what we sell our product.

And still cheaper than taking your car to a dealer or, even, most independent garages.

    Thanks!
