Hello All, I'm new to this forum although I have read some US forums and the VW newsgroups. I am on my second Passat TDI, an 06 TDI SE after my last one (a much loved and well looked after TDI S 90) conked out after filling up with Diesel at a big supermarket's petrol station. The Fuel sensor was affected on the car and it cost me over £250 to fix, but they were adamant that it was only Petrol cars that were affected. As that last TDi had done 140k and was 7 years old, I figured it was time to upgrade to my present car. I've done 13k in the last 5 months and I've not even noticed. Its a great car.

Welcome to the site, is you're old car working now? The supermarket petrol issue was caused by silicon in the petrol which harms the lamda probe. silicon is actually an additive in desiel so it helps.

Hi Rob, the car was repaired and I sold it on. I'm aware of the issues that surfaced at the time , but I had filled up with Supermarket Diesel in Weybridge and then again in Swansea the following day. By the time I had reached the start of the M50, my car had stopped completely. It then came back to life and we made it to Junction 18 of the M6 where it stopped again. The AA and the VW technician thought that maybe I had put petrol in the car, but there was no odour, no pinking etc... and I haven't lost my marbles yet. The car was serviced every 10k and had had a major service about 2 months before. It just seems weird that at the same time, loads of people were affected by supermarket fuel in the South of England. The whole thing has put me off Supermarket fuel and try and run it on Shell.
