I've just finished a mammoth task - replacing the rear suspension and bushes. Everything back from the gearbox (it's a Quattro) was off the car, including the rear subframe. Still, it's done now and the MoT (and 4 wheel alignment) is tomorrow - wish me luck!

My wife having a car with summer and winter wheels got me thinking though... I don't need or want wider tyres in the weather we've had recently, but the dryer roads that are hopefully just around the corner would be more suitable.

I've found a set of A8 (D2, type 4D, 1994-2002) 5-spoke 17x8" rims for sale. I like the look of the standard 16" 5-spoke rims on the Quattro, but a little more rim would be nice. I'd probably fit them with 225/45 tyres.

Has anyone done this, or is it too little change to be attractive to most people? I think they'll fit, but will be very happy to be corrected!

TIA, and a Happy New Year to all.

The same 16" 5-spoke sports alloys were fitted to A4, A6 and A8 i.e same offset. I've just bought a summer set of 16" A6 wheels for my A4- same rims. My friend has 17" alloys with 225-45's on his '98 2.8, but not sure whether they are 8" rims. 17" with lower profile won't fill the arches any more though - just gives you a harder, more expensive ride!.

Thanks Ike - I didn't know the same rims were a common fitment across the ranges.

It's taken a while to find the info, but it is (of course!) here: thread #59712. Quite an early thread, too.

If they aren't the same, they are extraordinarily similar!

I've found a set which aren't damaged but do look a mess. I'll probably just have them painted.

Your experience echoes that of adamss24 - I'll bear it in mind. Thanks.
