Recently I had a leak in my VW Sharan and thought to dry the carpet out using an electric blanket on the carpets. This was in the rear of the vehicle. I noticed the following morning after it being minus 5 that the front windscreen of the vehicle was completely frozen up but the back end was clear. I then checked the temprature of the electric blanket and found it created heat of 10 degress +. I then thought why not hang the electric blanket across the internal front windscreen area with its corner tags across the front sun blinds letting it hang down which would cause enough heat to keep the front windscreen clear. I ran a 20 metre extension power supply lead from the blanket out the boot which can shut properly even with the cable in the way. This set up which takes about 5 - 10 mins to set up saves me a lot of hassle in the mornings. Alternatively I could just buy a Ford Galaxy with a quick clear windscreen ! Why VW did not use those in this joint venture vehicle is beyond me as I believe it gets quite cold in winter in Germany.

Hi there, sounds quite it works for you, but a helluva hassle I would have thought myself.

You are so right though.....having owned several Ford Mondeos over the last few years the one thing that I like about them ( please believe me, there were many - a highly under rated car IMO ) was the front heated windscreen.

How and why, many of the "premium" brands have not incorporated this into their vehicles is totally beyond me

Ford held a patent for the heated windscreens, hence why only Ford group companies had them fitted (until recently AFAIK).

I usually just throw a couple of towels over the windscreen or use an old bed sheet to stop the frost.

I miss my Mondeo and it's heated windscreen :'(
