    Hello,

Would be very grateful for any assistance please.......................
My coolant warning light comes on sometimes when the car is cold (incorrectly) and VAGCOM shows that the engine is running lean which would appear to indicate that the ECT sensor could be faulty? and replacing the ECT sensor would be quite cheap/easy to do. Any view on above would be welcomed.....

I have tried to remove the sensor to check which type of ECT is fitted but it won't budge and I don't want to force it. Has anyone changed an ECT sensor before and have any tips? Car ia a 1.8t 2001. Haynes manual does not expand on 'remove the sensor'

Incidentally I asked a local VW/Audi specialist to just replace the sensor on a service and they said they would do it but only if I paid the £40 (plus VAT) fee for them to use VAGCOM on the car despite me having a print out. Nice eh?

    Cheers

All sorted now got garage to replace ECT but worked out that to open the clip needed to push the top bit in (hard to see where the ECT sensor is).

Car still running ***** so cleaned MAF and now runs even worse. So went for spin with MAF sensor unplugged and it flew (drove like it always should have done).

So off to buy a new MAF tomorrow and apart from a lighter wallet hopefully back to normality. VAG cars are great well made etc but I am yet to own one that hasn't experienced some kind of fault.
