RNS315 - DAB or not, that is the question!!

Hi All, recently ordered a Passat CC which comes with the RNS315 sat nav system as standard. I'd really like DAB but wasnt willing to shell out for the RNS510 ...... good job as they dont fit them any more!! .....

Anyway, the VW site says the RNS315 is DAB 'compatible' (whatever that means) but one guy who has recently collected his CC with this unit fitted, was told by the dealership that it's not yet working ....

the phrase 'DAB Compatible' suggests it will work with DAP but you need 'something else' fitted/installed/reprogrammed before it will work correctly.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

This Touran price list - http://www.dealdrivers.co.uk/html/touran.html - indicates that there is an orderable upgrade for DAB on the RNS315:

DAB Radio upgrade to RCD310 and RCD510 and RSN315 nav (only when ordered with with RCD 310 or RCD 510 on S & S Bluemotion tech'y models)

From that list it appears that DAB is not compatible with the rear view camera:

Rear view camera, displayed via vehicle's audio display. Must be in conjunction with RCD510 or RNS 315 nav. Cannot be specified in conjunction with DAB radio

But nothing mentioned about compatibility issues with the MDI:

MDI inc USB and ipod cables (must be ordered with front centre armrest on S and S Bluemotion tech'y models)

My dealer thought that the DAB option wasn't available yet (didn't know for sure) but that it would be possible to fit after delivery. Presumably this is only an option if you don't get the rear-view camera.

This just my reading of the specs so you should check with your dealer. Perhaps the 2011 accessories list will include this option. The accessories brochure on the VW website is still from January 2010.

I presume thats the same upgrade listed in this part of the VW UK site .... I wonder how much it costs? Did your dealer give you any information about price?

DAB was standard on the RNS315 fitted to my Passat Sport Saloon (delivered end May 11). If my current experience is anything to go by, probably just a software upgrade. I had problems with the display freezing and the unit has just been replaced (6 week wait for parts). When I checked, the new unit did not have DAB or Bluetooth. Took it back to the dealer who claimed corrupted software - after which both were back.
