There's quite a noticeable squeaking coming from the front of the car when the air con is on which I presume the belt is going. Is there a Gide anywhere for replacement also probably worth doing the aux belt as well as from what I know the whole bumper needs to come off. Is there anything else should be replaced or checked while the bumper is off.

You dont say which engine you have, on TDI its cam belt replacement which requires the front to be pulled forward. If its just the aux drive belts you need to search for tensioner and alternator pulley problems before changing the belts.

It's the 130bhp AWX diesel. The cam belt is fine it's the belt for the air con that needs to be replaced just wondering if anyone has a guide for it. Also what needs to be looked out for on the tensioner?

the aircon belt you can replace very easy, take off the under tray, then with a 5 or 6 mm allen key undo the 2 or 3 bolts on the tensoner, move the tensoner out the way and the belt comes off, to refit put the belt on then with a 17mm spanner move the tensoner so the belt is tight enough and then tighten up the allen bolts job done mate

Squealing from the front is usually the alternator pulley clutch seized and wrecking the tensioner, if you are sure it is the air con belt and the tension is adjusted correctly on this, it could be the compressor seizing up.

It's only when the air con is on that the noise is there and if i put it into econ it goes off. If it's an easy job I'll just replace the belt but the front bumper is sitting a bit low so I was going to take off the front and replace both belts and just have a look to make sure everything is ok. Is there any way to narrow it down to the compressor?

Is there not a pulley-clutch on the AC compressor, that can chirp
when its on its way out, and under load?

    Regards
    Jim
