The warning light came on the dash for no left rear light, my car is a 2009 A3 sportback with the LED rear lights.

I removed the rear light unit and found water/Ice arround the circuit board which I dried off with a hair dryer and put back on the car, the lights now work.

Have been back out in the car today (Raining) and the warning light has come back on and the left rear light is not working, this is the first time I have had issues in the 11/2years I have had the car.

Any ideas what can cause this and how to fix?

Also should the light unit have a seal arround tpo stop water getting in?

    Any help would be great

    Thanks in advance

pretty much as kite says. Its an audi jobby. I wouldn't worry bout fixing it yourself. In-fact i'd avoid trying to fix it yourself as this can void a replacement unit under warranty and the expense put into your pocket. They'll have to order a new light unit. And because one of the lights is out it will be done on priority.

I had a prob with my front LED lights, they were severely misting up and getting weird patterns. Took it to Audi and they ordered 2 brand new units. The units are sealed and would be a waste of time opening them up to clean the mist patterns. However 1 of the 2 units, a technician dropped it and had to wait for a new one to be ordered.

They'll simply order a new one anyway because its a waste of time them trying to fix it as its under warranty. The units are sealed but have tiny breathers within the seals to allow any moisture to exit. Otherwise condensation will just stay in the unit and will not be able to evaporate. Seems to me the seal has broken or somewhere in the unit there is a crack.

Took it to my local Audi dealer yesterday, and they ordered a new rear light under warenty, no questions asked.

They replaced it today while I waited, first rate service by them.

Thanks for all of your advice and help

    Cheers

    Dave
