Nearside mirror dips to assist reverse parking

I have been working my way through section three of the manual for my 1.6fsi Golf and came across this function that, if I could understand what they are telling me, would be a very useful function. It may as well be written in German for the sense I can make of it!

From what I can understand the nearside mirror will dip, that is rotate downwards, to allow a view of the pavement edge when the gear is in reverse and the ignition is switched on, and return to the normal rearward view when the car in taken out of the reverse gear.

Can someone tell me in plain English how to set up the function properly as I can't follow it in the manual, section 3; I don't know whether I am doing it wrong that something is not working or that it is just not possible on the model I have, 57 reg?

Not sure if it is the same on the Golf but on the Audis you only get this if you have electric seats with the memory function.

It should just work when you engage reverse so it is either faulty or, more likely you just don't have it. There maybe a VCDS mod to get it to work though as the parts are all there.
