I recently did a valve job on a 1990 Coupe quattro. It ran before but with the obvious lack of power. I reassembled the engine and installed it but now although it turns over, I have no visible spark . I'm out of ideas....thx

It could be a crank position sensor fault but one I used to see a lot was the plastic gear on the base of the distributor breaking off. Make sure the rotor arm is going round and that the timing is correct. Have you checked for power to the coil?

How do I check the crank position sensor? I assume it consists of the two cylinders installed near the flywheel position hole. Is this correct? I don't have a manual which shows all of the components so I may be confused on this. I purchased a rebuilt (Bosch) Distributor since the old one had a crack in the drive gear. I did check for power to the coil and it was ok.....thanks

You use an oscilloscope. One is the crank position sensor, the other the speed sensor.
