    FSH 160k.
Repeated problem of when the car is started from an overnight rest.
The car is fine for a 4 -5 minutes but then appears to misfire, occasionally illuminating the engine management light. If I switch the car off and restart, the light generally (but not always at first try) will go out and the car is fine and would happily drive all day without it happening again.

My first thought was fuel starvation so I changed the fuel filter but to no avail.
I am now wondering if it could be air getting into the diesel supply and gradually arriving after a few minutes at the injector as it is always a similar distance from home.
The car certainly feels as though its runnng on 3 cylinders until the ignition is re-started and once again all is well until the next overnight park.

Anyone else suffered similar or got any ideas ?
I do have access to engne diagnostic tool next Saturday but would appreciate your thoughts and suggestions until then.

Might be temperature sensor/wiring fault as it happens during warm up. PD tdi misfire is usually an injector loom fault. Let's hope a code read will help.

Almost certainly, an injector wiring loom failure.

Many thanks to you both for your quick replies.
If it were a injector loom fault any idea why it only ever does it 4 -5 mins after start up? and why it never returns after the ignition has been cycled?

My experience of the injector wiring loom failing was that it started as a hesitancy at certain revs then gradually developed in to a more consistent misfire over time. It didn't happen all the time though, so stopping and re-starting seemed to 're-set' it, although it wasn't actually re-setting anything.

Your fault could be the wiring loom which is simply the common cause of such problems (and relatively cheap and easy to fix), but may be something else. If you get the diagnosis that should answer the question, though early failure of the loom won't necessarily register a fault.

Its the effect that freezing overnight temperatures, and hot
engine oil has on a fried wiring loom.

Switching it off and on re-boots the ECU, the fault will still
be stored because the engine management light came on.

A code like 18074 refers to the loom.
