Hi all. Wonder if anyone has an idea on how I can fix this little problem without paying an arm and a leg. An arm or a leg would probably be fine

I bought my '06 A4 in October. Very pleased with it so far. Spent a bob or two on things like a new cam belt at Reading Audi: excellent service there, btw, and nice people.

Anyway, one thing I've discovered is that the menu button on the Concert radio is bust, ie, if you press it, it kind of depresses into the dash a little and stays stuck. What that means in practice is that I can't acess any of the menu commands. Worse, it interferes with normal radio functions so I get either traffic reports or the memo-recording feature.

    This is the button:

And here's the full radio in case you need to see it in situ:

A bit of gentle fiddling with the button and a paper clip unstuck it so I now hear the radio. Not touched it again since.

When I asked Reading Audi about it, they told me the whole dash would have to come off. Informal quote: about 500. At that price, I can live without the menu button. They said typical cause (and, they said, they see a lot of this issue with this dash design in this A4 model) is liquid spilled on the dash probably from a cup in the dash cup-holder.

So I guess my question is: is there an easier way to try and fix this. Or does it really require a start once the dash is dismantled? If so, I'll need someone to do that, depending on price. Or I just live with it as is. At least I can hear the radio and play CDs...

Appreciate your help and advice, thanks.

the radio can be removed from the dash with the keys, I have them and I'm in Bracknell.
It might be worth removing the radio and see if the front panel can come off to clean up the buttons, if not get a radio from the bay of thieves...

@Kite, many thanks for your reply.

That sounds worth looking at. I'm in Wokingham so we're neighbours. Happy to get together at a convenient time, explore some ideas and options if you're willing. I'll pm you.
