    Hi all,

I'll keep it short so people actually read this

    - Audi A8 2.8 Sport 2001
    - Annoying buzzing coming from engine bay only when the engine is hot
    - Coming from area in between where the ECU is and the air intake for heating etc.
    - Pipes in that area vibrate to touch.

Here's the youtube link to the sound:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBub93hvXoM

Help? Anyone? Would flushing the coolant help or would those pipes need replacing? Are they even coolant pipes?

Seriously mate I'd help if I could, but haven't a clue. I'm sure there is plenty of people that could point you on the right direction, but I'm sorry to say this has got to be the most unhelpful and unfriendly forum I've ever been on. Pitty as I love my car and thought I was amongst the same...

And that is the most unhelpful and unfriendly posting I've seen on this board.

These are very complex cars, not many people outside the Audi dealer community know their way around them, so if people can't help, then its because they can't, not because they don't want to help.

I don't know what the problem is with The_IMF's car, but suggest he tries turning off the ventilation system and aircon to see if that makes any diffference.

    Great!

I've always owned BMW's and this is my first Audi. So many BMW forums and so much helpful advice.

For others who may have this same issue in the future; I have tracked it down to the coolant circulation pump making the noise.

Anyone who has ever slightly worked on one of these cars could've been able to tell me that from the video but no, I had to take pictures of parts, take the pics to an Audi dealer and ask them what each part was and using Google extensively to figure it out.

I'm sure there's plenty of people on here that could've helped and saved me a week of agony.

Now just need to source the part second hand as Audi tried to rip me off.

    Gentlemen,

    let's clarify a few points

    • This forum is a free resource
    • People give up their free time, to help others
    • Techies & seasoned experts alike are not omnipotent
Micha_elD - thank you for your post - it's members like you who we appreciate and welcome with open arms.

The_IMF & Han Solo - perhaps if you were more active within the community section of this forum, instead of assuming people are here to answer your every question, you may see the forum for it's true value.

I've edited posts to remove swearing - consider this a warning.

Now, play nice - nobody likes ill feeling.

Please explain why this was the most unhelp and unfreindly post that you have seen? I was not abusive, I was expressing my opinion regarding this forum. Take a look for yourself. Flick through the pages and see the minimal input that alot of users have had when asking questions about their cars.

I am an active member on many car forums, and alot of motorcycle forums. I have always helped those in need, and if I can't I will at least point them in the right direction on where to get that help. Take a look for yourself at other marques forums.

As said there are plenty of people on here with masses of knowledge but they choose not to help. Im sorry but that IS the case, hence my post.

Yes, I agree with you, these cars are hugely complicated, but some people ask fairly straightforward questions, with absolutely zero response, but with plenty of views to their threads.

So are we saying that we have to be active community members to get a response to questions? mmm... thats friendly. I recently registered on another forum and posted a single question. Within 2 hours there were 19 replies, most were extremely helpful, and there were also several people just saying Hi & welcome to the site.

My post still stands. Out of all the car/bike forums, unfortunately this IS the most unhelpful and unfreindly I have visited. Shame really.

Solo - your post was unhelpful as it offered nothing to the users query.

    Is that what I said?

    Let's revisit my post

I didn't think I'd said you need to be an active member to get answers.

What I believe I said was that you would see the true value of this forum were you more active.

In contrast to your post, try flicking through the pages and see the 1000's of indepth threads, offering advice.

See the how to's, the FAQ's and the highly experienced people we have on board.

I'm sorry Solo, but you're criticising a forum that you're not incredibly active on, based on your experiences on other forums.

That's not fair and honestly, it grates when a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes to keep this forum running as smoothly as it does.

Edit: I see Esh has replied too, I was unaware he was replying at the same time.

This isn't a Mod-pile-on, but it is something we feel passionately about.

Forgive me for intruding, but of the seven threads you've started all but one has received a reply.

I'm not sure what helpful/friendly means to you, but the replies therein all appear to have aided you to a resolution.

The A8/S8/V8 section is a low traffic section of the forum.

The site covers more than 5 marques and countless models within each marque. To expect everyone who is knowledgeable to be monitoring new threads hourly is unreasonable.

This is the only multi-marque I'm a member of, so I'm not sure how it's done elsewhere, but ff we're doing it wrong, I'd love to hear how we can improve with some constructive feedback.

OK lets get one this clear. I'm not trying to abuse anyone personaly here, if I offended anyone for their hard woirk/passion then I apologise, that certainly was not my intention.

For someone that hasnt alot of time to socialise on her in the wider forums, Ive only the time to come onto this particular section to try and glean info on alot of the posts Ive read. Im not stating that Ive had no responses, I have. Ive looked through the amount on zero response threads and there are quite a few. These people seem like they need help, but no replies. Again, there are people with a wealth of knowledge that could offer that help.

"The site covers more than 5 marques and countless models within each marque. To expect everyone who is knowledgeable to be monitoring new threads hourly is unreasonable."

I don't expect that, I never stated I expect that. I certainly don't expect A3 users to be looking at the A3/4/5/6 section etc, The only people interested in this section is us, A8 owners.

Answer me this. If you really had a problem with your car and posted up a question, 60 people viewed it but no-one replied, what would you think? Would you think, "well actualy obviously no-one knows the answer"? or more, "I can't beleive no-one's bothering to help me"?

I tell you what, I agree, and fully understand that from your point I'm just another trawler that want's free help, and I can honestly see where your coming from, so from that point of view I WILL try and be a more active member within the community, time permitting (hellish shifts).

I'm no wind-up merchant, but what I have seen is from my point of view only, rightly or wrongly.

If you want to see some other marques forums, take a look, you dont have to register.

Finally, once again, apologies if I have offended that was not my intent, I think we can both try and see each others views here.
