I've had a intermitant temp gauge so I changed the water temp sender on my '02 1.8T Passat and after replacing the coolant that escaped during the process I now have the red warning light "Check coolant"in the dash light up and it won't go out even though the level is fine.I contacted the local VW dealer and they said that this was normal until the system bleeds itself but the light and warning buzzer are still on even after 3 days use.By the way the temperature gauge is still not working so it couldn't have been the sender - any ideas?

With two faults, maybe a faulty instrument cluster?

If the coolant in the reservoir is above MIN, the light should go off. you could try banging the reservoir in case the sender is jammed at the bottom of it's travel.

Thanks for the quick replys. The gauge only works sometimes,it will go to 90 then fall back to zero, other times it will just barely move then return to zero.I didn't realise that there is a sender in the header tank itself,I'll check in the daylight.
